Artist Statement

My paintings explore the nature of foundational details and the interaction of essential elements and read as unfolding phenomena or imaginary settings in flux. Plump blooms of piped paint interact with potent areas where colour has exploded out of a tear in a bag or has been dropped from above. By using piping bags and palette knives to apply the paint, my practice is both meticulous and open to accident. The work implies an ambiguity of scale and setting and changes depending on the proximity of the viewer, oscillating between microcosms and macrocosms.
